Description
ICON Painting of Mary with baby Jesus
icon (from the Greek εἰκών eikṓn “image”, “resemblance”) is a religious work of art, most commonly a painting, in the cultures of the Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodoxy, the Roman Catholic, and certain Eastern Catholic churches. The most common subjects include Christ, Mary, saints, and angels (Wikipedia).
According to orthodoxa.org, an icon is not simply the representation of a religious subject, it is a representation with religious meaning, and if it is an Orthodox icon it must have an orthodox meaning.
DESCRIPTION
Very Beautiful painting. Vivid, clear colors with raised outlines. This looks like recent artwork from a painting school. Such schools have been in existence for decades, see the video below. Vintage works like this typically show cracked paint due to age. However, this painting is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks on paint.
INSCRIPTION
In Greek Alphabet. ΜΡ ΘΩ = mother of God IC ΧΕ = Christ ” X ” this letter in greek can be translated by ” ch” like school from the greek ΣΧΟΛΙΟ .= scholio.
