Ceremonial Axe

Axe Description

 The Shona axe has a shaped metal head mounted in a mask finial, on a slightly tapering shaft with wire-work bands, 45cm long. Intricately woven brass wire at the top and bottom of the dark dense exotic wood haft.

Axe Traditional Use

This is a ceremonial axe, also passed down the family lineage like the bakatwa. These type of traditional weapons displayed signs of status at the same time bearing ancestral iconography.
